Does Unspoken really work offline?
Yes. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, so you can dictate in airplane mode. You only need a connection to download the app, to download extra models, and for update checks.
Does any of my audio leave my Mac?
No, unless you opt in to a cloud engine or AI cleanup model by adding your own provider key and selecting it. Those options are labeled in the app. Out of the box, nothing is uploaded.
Which languages are supported?
More than 100 with the Whisper engines, including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Parakeet v3 covers 25 European languages and is the fastest.
Is Unspoken GDPR compliant?
Because recognition happens on your device, there is no voice data for us to process. Unspoken is built by Akilaris UG in Bremen, Germany, and the privacy policy lists what the website collects.
How does the free trial work?
You can use Unspoken free for 7 days without a credit card. If you subscribe through checkout, you can cancel any time.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Each license covers one device. You can move it to a new Mac from your account.
Do I get updates?
Lifetime includes one year of updates. After that, updates are optional at $29/year, and you always keep the version you bought. Subscriptions include updates.
Does it work in my apps?
It works system-wide: email, Word, browsers, Slack, VS Code and any other place you can type. Press your shortcut and talk.
Which Macs are supported?
macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or newer, on Apple Silicon and Intel. Apple Silicon is recommended for the fastest engines.
